West Clare Currach Club
Constitution and Rules


1. NAME
1.1 The name of the Club shall be hereinafter referred to as "the Club".

2. OBJECTIVE OF THE CLUB
2.1. To promote building and rowing of West Clare Canoes (Currachs).
2.2. To provide an opportunity for members of the Club to meet and participate in rowing activities together in Co Clare and on trips in Ireland and abroad.
2.3. To act as an umbrella group for affiliated currach clubs and regatta committees. Supporting new clubs to become active in their own area, sharing skills and knowledge
2.4. To promote our regattas and the maritime history of West Clare using our website and other appropriate means.
2.5 To actively support other projects which promote using our maritime resources along the coast in a sustainable way.
2.6 Promoting safety at sea at all times for club members and public in general

3. MEMBERSHIP OF THE CLUB
3.1 Membership of the Club shall be on the basis of payment of a registration fee agreed at annual AGM. The committee will have the final say on whether an application is successful.
3.2. In addition to 3.1 above membership of the Club shall only be open to clubs who recognise that rowing activities can be dangerous and can cause personal injury. That they will take full responsibility for all aspects of safety when using currachs for training and regattas in their own areas.
3.3. Affiliated Club members will use club boats to help new members get involved as well as training for competitive crews
3.4. Club members will send in information and pictures of training and regattas for inclusion in website
3.5. Insurance costs and costs for maintaining boats and trailers owned by the club will be shared by affiliated clubs

4. MANAGEMENT OF THE CLUB
4.1. The Management of the Club shall be entrusted to the Club Coordinating Committee, hereinafter referred to as "the Committee".
4.2. Members shall abide by Club Guidelines. Any member failing to do so, wilfully damaging property, or otherwise bringing the Club or members into disrepute, or acting against the interests of the Club, shall be liable to be summarily suspended or removed from the roll of members by the committee. The reasons for such sanction must be announced at the earliest agreed Club Meeting. Such sanction may be overturned by a resolution passed by a majority of no less than three-fourths of the members present and entitled to vote at a subsequent General Meeting of which due notice has been given.

5. OFFICERS OF THE CLUB
5.1. The elected Officers of the Club shall be Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Other posts such as Safety Officer, PRO. Project Co-ordinator, Away Trips Coordinator, Webmaster etc can be agreed at AGM
5.2. Voting for the election of Officers shall take place at the AGM which shall take place no later than the last day of April. Each affiliated club has one vote.
5.3. No officer shall serve for a term longer than three years.
5.4 Officers should reflect where possible the geographical spread of clubs and work in the interest of all affiliated clubs.

6. COMMITTEE OF THE CLUB
6.1. The Chairperson of the Club will normally preside at and Chair all meetings of the Club and shall be responsible for reporting to the Membership at the Club's AGM.
6.2. The Committee shall be composed of the Officers of the Club.
6.3. The Club Secretary shall be responsible for all correspondence relating to Club affairs and for announcing Committee meetings, and the production and distribution of minutes from those meetings. The Secretary shall also be responsible for announcing the AGM and shall give, at lease 30 clear days notice of such a meeting and its agenda. Items for inclusion should be submitted at least 7 days prior to the AGM. The Secretary shall keep records about the Membership of the Club and shall be aware of total membership using boats.
6.4. The Committee may, wherever it thinks fit, and shall, on a requisition made by a minimum of three affiliated clubs or more members, convene an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), Fourteen days notice of such a meeting shall be given by the Secretary to all members, and the business for which the meeting is called shall be stated.
6.5. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the collection of subscriptions and will account for any other income and expenditure made on behalf of the Club. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the payment of insurance and the collection of club fees.
6.6. A quorum for a meeting of the Committee shall be half of the elected voting members. In addition to the AGM the Committee (or Club) shall hold at least 2 meetings each year.
6.7. It will be the responsibility of the all club members to promote their own local regattas and training as well as activities and those of the club.

7. CLUB SUBSCRIPTIONS
7.1. The committee shall have the power to set membership subscription levels for the Club on an annual basis.

8. RULES OF THE CLUB
8.1. The Committee shall have the power to decide if a club should not have access to boats due to poor handling and care of boats as well as safety concerns.
8.2 Affiliated clubs have responsibility for general care and maintenance of currachs when they are using them. Proper staging, as well as patching and tarring when necessary.
8.3 Club has responsibility to replace oars and re-canvas boats when necessary
8.4 Club will nominate a currach builder for repair and maintenance in the interest of keeping a common standard for all boats.

9. AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE CLUB
9.1. This Constitution may be amended by a two thirds majority. Notice of any amendment must be delivered to the Secretary at least 45 days prior to the AGM.
9.2. The Club can be dissolved by two thirds majority vote carried out in accordance with Article 9 whereupon the Committee will arrange to discharge any assets amongst the Members. Any liabilities at the time of dissolution shall be the joint responsibility of all members.
